WEB DESK: The third wave of corona virus has also hit Pakistan hard, with more than 200 people have died from the pandemic for the first time in the country, while 5,292 new cases have been reported.
According to the corona statistics website (covid.gov.pk) in Pakistan, 49101 tests for corona were conducted in the last 24 hours across the country out of which 5292 people were confirmed to be infected with corona virus.
According to the official portal, the rate of positive cases of corona in the country was 10.77%. According to official figures, the death toll from Corona in the country has risen to 17,530 and the total number of cases has reached 8,10,231 while the number of active cases is 88,207.
In addition, 4678 patients across the country recovered from Corona in 24 hours, bringing the total number of those who recovered to 74,449.
According to the official portal, the total number of Corona patients in Sindh has reached 280,356 while 4624 people have died so far.
The total number of corona patients in Punjab is 296,144 and 8,224 people have died due to the virus while the total number of patients in Balochistan has reached 21,945 and the death toll has risen to 233.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the number of corona patients has been 115596 and 3201 deaths while in Azad Kashmir, 16779 people have been infected with the virus and 468 people have died.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, 5280 corona patients have died so far and 105 have died. According to the portal, the total number of Corona patients in the federal capital Islamabad is 74,131 and 675 patients have died so far.
Punjab Govt Tighten the restrictions
Due to increasing cases of corona, the Punjab government has issued a notification to tighten the restrictions.
According to the notification issued by the Punjab government, all kinds of business activities will be completely closed from 6 pm till dawn, however, petrol pumps, medical stores and vaccination centers will remain open.
The notification said that intercity public transport will run with 50 per cent passengers while trains will run with 70 per cent passengers. However, inter-provincial public transport will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
In addition, sports and cultural activities will be banned across the province during this period, which will remain in effect until May 17.
Punjab Govt Extends Closure of Shrines in 14 Districts
The Punjab Endowment Department has extended the closure of shrines in 14 districts with high rates of Corona cases. According to a notification issued by the endowment department, the closure of shrines in 14 districts has been extended till May 17.
According to the notification, all the shrines in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kasur, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Jhang, Multan, Okara, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha and Rawalpindi managed by the endowment department will remain closed till May 17.
