The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) top leadership is once again trying hard to unify against Imran Government. The opposition alliance, which had apparently disintegrated few days ago due to a dispute over the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, is once again weighing the need to sit and work together.
On one side is Maulana, who is paving the way for the return of the PPP and the ANP, while on the other side is Shahbaz Sharif, who wants the two parties to return to unity so that together they can attack the Imran government as a force.
PDM’s first innings had failed to impress against Imran XI, although they started the innings well, but the nation saw how all of sudden they scattered.
Now they are talking about new determination and unity before the second innings and a wanted to begin decisive move against the Imran government, however critics are not impressed with their new political move. They are saying PDM has become like dead horse, it can not be alive again.
Talking to media in the federal capital Islamabad today, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that PPP wants to return to the alliance and the door of alliance is open for them.
However, he said that the two major opposition parties, the PPP and the PML-N, were not ready to resign.
“There is no obstacle for the PPP and the ANP to join the alliance. If the PPP accepts our position, we can recognize their opposition leader in the Senate,” he added.
In response to a question, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the ANP was also angry with the PPP for taking votes from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). The ANP leadership had to announce its separation from the coalition due to some pressure.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that political stability in the country is very important for the revival of the country’s economy. There is no option for in-house change in the current parliament.
Replying to a question, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that there was no moral justification for Imran Khan and Arif Alvi to remain after the verdict in the case of Justice Faiz Issa.
Sources said that the PML-N had agreed to the return of the PPP to the PDM following the intervention of Shahbaz Sharif. The PML-N leaders did not openly oppose the return of the PPP to the PDM. Shahbaz Sharif is of the view that the return of PPP and Awami National Party will strengthen the PDM.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Akhtar Mengal and BNP Bizenjo have also expressed their willingness to join the alliance. However, Owais Noorani and Professor Sajid Mir expressed reservations over the return of PPP.
On the other hand, the PDM summit on April 29 has been postponed till after Eid. PPP and ANP are also expected to attend the next summit.
It may be recalled that the opposition alliance had disagreed over the resignations and the issue of Yousuf Raza Gilani becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, after which the Awami National Party announced its separation from the alliance, while the PPP had also demanded an apology on the show cause notice.
