62% Water of 29 Cities of Pakistan Unhealthy: Ministry of Science

According to the Federal Ministry, the water of 28 cities contains 8% arsenic, 4% nitrate and 4% fluoride

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology has said that 62% of water in 29 major cities of Pakistan is unhealthy and unfit for human consumption.

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology has stated that the water of 28 other cities of the country has 39% bacterial contamination. According to the Federal Ministry, the water of 28 cities contains 8% arsenic, 4% nitrate and 4% fluoride.

The Ministry further saying that 89% bacterial contamination was found in 112 water sources of Dadu city of Sindh.

According to the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, 28% arsenic, 36% iron and 20% fluoride and bacteria have been found in the water of Bahawalpur district of Punjab province.

According to Senator Shibli Faraz, Federal Minister for Science and Technology water in Dadu and Bahawalpur is very dangerous. He warned that the use of contaminated water increases the risk of cancer.

Earlier on July 9, the Water Resources Research Council (PCRWR) in Islamabad had confirmed that 22 brands selling water in Pakistan are not potable. The government has directed that the water of the brands be checked every three months and the results be made public.

180 samples of these brands were obtained from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi, Tando Jam, Badin, Quetta, Loralai, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit.

The results of these samples, combined with a report by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), show that there are 22 brands whose water is unsafe for human life.

The amount of arsenic in a brand is found to be 24 micrograms per liter, while according to the standards of the control authority, the amount of arsenic in drinking water should be 10 micrograms per liter.

The amount of sodium in water should be 50 mg per liter. One liter of water bottle should contain 500 mg of TDS.

There are also 15 brands such as Pure, Hunza, Hydride, Blue Plus, Sunley, Aqua King, Spring Fresh Life, UFP Edge, Doro, Dropace, Puree Kana, Drops, Best Natural, Alberka Water have been declared unsafe.
